Lake Sarasota, Florida Car Accident Lawyer

Lake Sarasota lies east of Interstate 75 off the Bee Ridge Road corridor, in the part of the county where suburban development runs out into open land. The roads change character there. Lanes narrow, street lighting becomes intermittent, posted speeds rise, and the distance between intersections grows.

I am David Harris and I have handled Sarasota County crash claims since 2003. The east-county files are different from the ones I take on the Trail, and the difference is mostly speed.

A crash at sixty carries several times the energy of the same crash at forty, and that shows up in the medical record rather than in the police report. Head injuries, spinal injuries and internal injuries are disproportionately east-county files in my experience, and those are the claims where the fight is about future care rather than about a few weeks of physiotherapy.

This is the practical thing to know about Lake Sarasota. Crashes on the interstate itself are worked by the Florida Highway Patrol. Crashes on the county roads around it are worked by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. They are separate agencies with separate records systems, and people routinely spend a fortnight asking the wrong one for a report.

Either way, section 316.066 of the Florida Statutes makes a Florida crash report confidential for sixty days after it is filed. Inside that window it goes to the people involved in the crash and their representatives, and to nobody else.

An urban crash usually has a witness, a camera on a plaza, or a business with a doorbell facing the road. A crash on a two-lane road past dark often has none of those. What it has instead is physical evidence on the roadway, and that evidence is measured by the responding agency and then erased by the next rainstorm.

That is the reason I would rather hear about an east-county crash in the first week than in the second month. The two-year limitation period under Florida law protects your right to file. It does nothing to preserve a tyre mark.

Sarasota Memorial is the county's only trauma centre, and from Lake Sarasota that is a drive west across the interstate. In a serious crash you will not be choosing. In a moderate one you might be, and the clock is running either way. None of this is medical advice.
