Finding Suite 102

There are two easy ways onto Potter Park Drive. From Gulf Gate, Bee Ridge and downtown, come south on US-41 or Beneva Road and turn onto Sarasota Square Boulevard. From Vamo, Osprey and the south, Central Sarasota Parkway brings you in.

The Directions link above opens the office's own Google listing, so your phone routes you to this building, not to a pin in your neighborhood. The office is staffed, and David Harris Law is the only law firm in the building.

If stairs, a walker or a wheelchair are part of your recovery right now, say so when you call, and the visit can be planned around it.

Who you will sit down with

David Harris. He is the lawyer at Suite 102, and he handles car accident cases personally, start to finish. The lawyer who hears what happened to you is the lawyer who works the claim.

David reads your crash report himself, asks about your treatment and missed work, and deals with the insurance companies for you. If your crash does not need a lawyer, he will tell you so.

Minutes from your neighborhood

Estimates for light traffic from the middle of each community. In season, US-41 and Clark Road add to all of them.

South and Vamo. Palmer Ranch is the office's own neighborhood, about four minutes by Sarasota Square Boulevard. South Sarasota is about five by Vamo Road and Beneva Road, Vamo about six by Central Sarasota Parkway, and Osprey about six up US-41. From Nokomis or Venice, the Venice office may be the shorter drive.

Gulf Gate and the Trail. Gulf Gate Estates is about seven minutes by US-41 and Beneva Road. South Gate Ridge is about 11 and Ridge Wood Heights about 12, both by Wilkinson Road. Southgate is about 16 by Webber Street.

Bee Ridge and Clark. The Clark Road area is about 13 minutes by Honore Avenue and McIntosh Road. Bee Ridge is about 14 by Bee Ridge Road and Beneva, Sarasota Springs about 15.

Downtown and the keys. Siesta Key is about 13 minutes over Stickney Point Road. Downtown Sarasota is about 18 by Washington Boulevard and US-41. Longboat Key is about 37, down Gulf of Mexico Drive and across the John Ringling Causeway.

East county. Fruitville is about 20 minutes by Cattlemen Road and Clark Road, Lake Sarasota about 24, and Lakewood Ranch about 27 by University Parkway and Clark Road.

Rear-ended on the way home? Start here

Traffic stops for the red light at Stickney Point Road and US-41. The car behind you does not. You feel fine and drive home.

The next morning your neck will not turn and your lower back has locked up. That delay is common, and the other driver's insurer will point to it later.

If that morning sent you to the emergency room at Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, the visit matters twice. It ties the injury to the crash on paper. And Florida requires treatment to begin within 14 days of the crash to keep your PIP benefits; an emergency room visit inside that window counts.

Then the phone calls start. You do not have to give the other driver's insurance company a recorded statement, and you do not have to call them back today. Talk to David before you call them back.

Florida generally presumes the driver in back caused a rear-end crash, but an insurer can still argue you stopped short or your brake lights were out. Under the state's modified comparative rule, a person more than 50 percent at recovers nothing from the other driver, so the story told in the first week matters.

Missed shifts count too. Your own PIP pays first, whoever caused the crash, and covers part of lost income as well as medical bills, up to your policy's limit. Keep a list of every shift you miss. More on rear-end crashes and what to do in the first days.

Talk to David before you call the adjuster back

One call to the Sarasota office covers the crash, your treatment so far and the calls you have been getting.

Other crashes that bring people through this door

A work truck or delivery van behind you

When the vehicle that hit you on US-41 belongs to a business, there is usually more than one insurer, and the company's records matter early: driver logs, dispatch notes, camera footage and vehicle data are kept on its schedule, not yours. Read about work trucks and vans, or start with the Sarasota commercial vehicle guide.

Hit while walking

US-41 is wide and fast through south Sarasota, and its crosswalks ask a lot of anyone on foot, as do the Legacy Trail's road crossings. Florida PIP can apply even when you were walking, and the still runs. More on being hit while walking.

On a motorcycle

Riders hit by a turning driver on Bee Ridge Road or near the I-75 ramps hear the same lines from insurers: too fast, hard to see. That argument aims at the 50 percent line, and because Florida PIP does not cover motorcycle riders, the other driver's coverage and your own matter more. More on motorcycle crashes.

Calling for someone in the hospital

If your husband, wife or parent is at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and you are the one keeping track, you can make the first call. David can tell you what to save, which calls can wait, and how the 14-day and two-year clocks apply. Your family member decides about hiring a lawyer when able.

The courthouse, hospitals and report desks around this office

Downtown, the Judge Lynn N. Silvertooth Judicial Center at 2002 Ringling Boulevard and the Clerk of the Circuit Court at 2000 Main Street serve Sarasota County, part of Florida's Twelfth Judicial Circuit.

Nearby hospitals include Doctors Hospital of Sarasota on Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota Memorial Hospital on South Tamiami Trail (the county's Level II trauma center) and Sarasota Memorial Hospital Venice on Laurel Road East.

Your crash report comes from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the Sarasota Police Department or the Florida Highway Patrol, and can be requested through the FLHSMV Florida Crash Portal. For the first 60 days, Florida releases it only to a short list that includes the people involved, their lawyers and their insurers.

Florida rules worth knowing before you visit

  • PIP pays first. Your own pays first, regardless of , up to your policy's PIP limit.
  • Fourteen days. Treatment must begin within 14 days of the crash to keep PIP benefits.
  • Two years. claims from crashes after March 24, 2023 generally must be filed within two years. Earlier crash? Talk to a lawyer about your date.
  • The 51 percent bar. More than 50 percent at fault means no recovery; below that, recovery shrinks by your share.
  • Serious injury threshold. Pain and suffering can be claimed against the at-fault driver only with a qualifying injury, such as a permanent one.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage. If the other driver had little or no insurance, your own UM coverage, if you carry it, may be the path.

None of this replaces a conversation about your own crash. That is what the call is for.

What to bring to your first meeting

Bring whatever you have. Missing pieces are normal.

  • Your insurance card, and the other driver's details if you have them
  • Photos of the scene, the vehicles and your injuries
  • ER and doctor paperwork, including discharge papers
  • Any letters, emails or voicemails from an
  • Your PIP claim number, if you have one
  • A list of the work days you have missed

Gather what you have, then call

David can go through your papers with you by phone first, so you know what matters before you make the drive.

Questions about visiting the office

I got rear-ended on Stickney Point. How long does it take to get to your office from Gulf Gate?

About seven minutes in light traffic, by US-41, Beneva Road and Sarasota Square Boulevard. You do not have to make the trip to get started. If the crash was in the last few days, the clock that matters more is Florida's 14-day window to begin treatment and keep PIP benefits. One call sorts out what needs doing this week.

Do I have to come in, or can we do the whole thing over the phone?

You do not have to come in to start. The first conversation is by phone, and how much happens in person later depends on your case and what suits you, so ask David. What should not wait is the paperwork: your PIP claim, treatment inside the 14 days, any letter from the other driver's insurer. Call, and go from there.

What should I bring the first time?

Whatever you have: the report number, ER papers, adjuster letters, your PIP claim number. The dates on your ER and doctor papers show whether treatment began inside Florida's 14-day PIP window, one of the first things David checks. Missing pieces are normal, and a report number plus the adjuster's name is enough to begin. Not sure what counts? Call and ask.

Will I actually meet David, or someone else?

You meet David. He is the lawyer at the Potter Park office and the lawyer on your case, start to finish. The person you explain your crash to is the person who answers the insurer later, including one claiming you were more than 50 percent at , where Florida bars recovery. Call and ask him how he works before you decide.

The other driver's insurance keeps calling. Should I call them back before I talk to you?

Talk to David first. You are not required to give the other driver's insurer a recorded statement, and what you say early can shape how they describe the crash later. Your own PIP pays your first medical bills whoever was at fault, so treatment does not wait on them. Note the adjuster's name and number, then call the Sarasota office.

Your first call, step by step

  1. You call the Sarasota office at 941-667-6900.
  2. You describe the crash: where, when, who responded, where you were treated.
  3. You go over your treatment so far, including whether it began within 14 days.
  4. You share what the insurers have said or sent, and whether anyone wants a recorded statement.
  5. David gives you a plain answer on whether your crash needs a lawyer.
  6. If it does, you decide together what comes next, including whether you come in to Suite 102.

Closer to Nokomis or Venice? The Venice office may be the easier trip. Searching from somewhere else in the county? Start with a car accident lawyer near you in Sarasota.
